Special Shape Shutters and Honeycomb Blinds in Bath Gable End
One of our more unusual installations, we installed a mix of shutters and blinds for Chris, one of our customers in Bath. He was looking for a solution for his newly built master bedroom. Although not surrounded by other properties, meaning privacy wasn’t an issue, his wife had trouble sleeping due to the light coming through the windows, so shutters seemed like a good idea.
The bedroom featured a gable end window, with doors leading to a Juliet balcony. Due to the shape of the window, all other options were discounted, as shutters can be made to fit the space exactly and minimise light bleed.
We had a few discussions with Chris about the choices for his shutters, as the large glass window needed to be covered, and there were lots of options to consider. He told us that a number of the main suppliers had been to quote as well, but he was impressed with the quality of our product, and felt that our quote was about right for the install.
Chris chose the Bermuda material for the shutters, as they allowed for the angled special shapes required for the gable. It is a blend of painted MDF with ABS louvres, with a natural finish, as well as a wider choice of colours than the entry level Antigua range.
To suit the rest of the interior design, and based on personal preference, he selected Silk White for the colour of the shutters. Chris also opted for 63mm louvres, providing a good balance between light control and privacy, as well as a silent tilt mechanism, giving a cleaner appearance, and controlling the louvres without the need of a visible tilt rod.
For the doors beneath the shutters, the more lightweight room darkening blinds seemed like a good choice. The PURE Cell Honeycomb range resembles a concertina in structure, and is made from a lined fabric which provides good insulation as well as blocking out the light when closed.
Chris and his wife live in Bath, which is one of the most iconic locations in Somerset, widely known for its Roman baths, as well as geothermal springs, providing the area with heated water. The city’s buildings are often constructed from Bath stone, a type of limestone with a warm yellowish tone, providing a level of uniformity.
Here is what Chris had to say: “The shutters work really well. We open and close them every day. We are really happy with the service and the product. We would go to Shuttercraft again if we were ever considering more shutters for our home.”
